Our Story:
Founded by Johnny Hughes and Douglas Shultz, North County MMA was built on a passion for martial arts and a desire to share its benefits with the community. With decades of combined experience in boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA, our founders created a space where beginners, hobbyists, and professional fighters alike can train under top-tier coaches in a high-energy, structured environment.

Johnny Hughes
Owner
After an extensive career in boxing including an impressive professional record of 20-0-1, Johnny turned his attention to passing along his knowledge and experience in a practical setting, thus creating NCMMA
Douglas Shultz
Owner
Doug began his career in high school where he wrestled for San Pasqual and has been training in jiu jitsu for the last 6 years and has placed in numerous Jiu Jitsu tournaments

Muay Thai Coach
Eddie brings an extensive background to North County MMA with an impressive record and regularly competing
Kreed Gentz
Lead Boxing Instructor
Kreed has been boxing since he was 10 and was inducted into the Marine Corps Hall Of Fame in 2021. Kreed is currently serving in the Marine Corp and is certified Instructor with USA Boxing

Jiu Jitsu Coach
Piter Frank is a 3-time Masters World Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, known for his dynamic, submission-heavy style. One of the most exciting fighters to watch, he’s now sharing his top techniques to help others elevate their game.
